  The burn trauma a bare-handed contact with a surface at temperatureK inflicts, or null when the surface isn't in the scalding band. Pure — returns the value; the caller afflicts it and emits its own verb-specific prose. The single home for the scalding-band burn rule the contact verbs share (feel, get), so the threshold + severity ramp aren't duplicated per controller. Severity rises with how far past the scalding floor the surface sits (a tuning detail, not a plan decision).
